FARNHILL FLYER ACCIDENTALLY KILLED

On Saturday evening, Mr. F. J. Stephens, grocer and draper, Newby Road, Farnhill, received a telegram saying that his son, lst Air Mechanic T. H. Stephens, Royal Air Force, had been killed accidentally on March 26th in France. This was followed by an official letter from the R.F.C. Records Office, and a letter of sympathy, dated March 27th, from the Rev. S. F. Sykes, who states:– “It is with great sorrow that I send you the sad news of a fatal accident to your son, T. H. Stephens, R.F.C. He and another were killed instantaneously yesterday, March 26th. I have buried his body in the cemetery here, and a complete record of the place is kept. I myself know what bereavement means, but I also know the help which God gave to me, and your son has laid down his life in doing his part for a great cause. With all sympathy.”

Airman T. H. Stephens, before his voluntary enlistment in February 1916, was a jeweller’s assistant in Crosshills, and resided with his parents in Newby Road, Farnhill. He was 35 years of age and unmarried.
