Private H. Grimston, Cononley

On Wednesday morning, Mrs. Grimston, of Aireside, Cononley, received official notice that her son, Private Harry Grimston, of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, had been killed by the bursting of a shell on a dug-out in which he and another man were sleeping. He leaves a wife and two little children, and much sympathy is felt for his family in their sad loss. Mrs. Grimston had two other sons in the Army, Willie and Walter, and another son is appearing this week before the Medical Board.

In a letter to his mother, his Commanding Officer says:– “He has not been with me very long, but in that time he had proved himself one of my best men and one whom I shall find it hard to replace. He was greatly liked and will be missed by all the company, and it is on their behalf and my own that I ask you to accept our deepest sympathy in your sad loss.”
