Another Dent Hero

Mr. G. Fawcett, of Lea Gate, Dent, has received word that his youngest son, Private G. E. Fawcett, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, has been killed in action in France. He was of a most cheerful and genial disposition, and the deepest sympathy is felt for his father in his sad loss. A chum writes to Mr. Fawcett:– “Your son George was my very best pal, and when we were attacking on the Arras section he and I went over the top together. We faced very heavy machine gun fire, and I am sorry to say he was killed instantly by my side. I tried to save him but it was hopeless. I was shot through the right thigh, and am now in Sheffield hospital.”

FAWCETT – In loving memory of our dear brother, Private George Fawcett, who was killed in action on September 1st, 1918.

He loved not war, but at his country’s call
He paid the supreme sacrifice – leaving all;
Home, friends, ambitions, all the hope of years
He laid upon the altar without tears.

From all at Collier Holme, Hawes.
