CROSSHILLS SOLDIER’S DEATH IN FRANCE

Official news was received by Mr. and Mrs. Richmond Thompson, of Harding Houses, Crosshills, of the death of their son, Private Frank Thompson, who died on the 10th April somewhere in France. Private Thompson, who was a young unmarried man, was a soldier in the York and Lancaster Regiment before the war, and had been with his regiment in France for some time. He met his death not in actual fighting, but as the result of an accident with a motor wagon.

A memorial service was held at St. Andrew’s Parish Church, Kildwick on Easter Monday morning. The preacher was the curate-in-charge, the Rev. Gerald A. Richardson, when the family and a good number of friends were present.

CROSSHILLS

DEATH OF MR W.R. THOMPSON – The death of Mr. Wm. Richmond Thompson, of Harding Houses, which took place on Tuesday morning, has come as a great surprise to the district. It appears that he had an attack of influenza, followed by double pneumonia, which was the cause of his death. The deceased, who was in his 52nd year, was greatly respected. All his life he has been closely connected with St. Andrew’s Church and Sunday School, Kildwick, and for many years he has been churchwarden, and at the time of his death he was vicar’s warden. For some time he was Sunday School superintendent. Deep sympathy is felt for the widow And family. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have lost their eldest son by accident in France, while the younger son is now a prisoner of war in Germany. Deceased leaves a widow, who is in very indifferent health, one daughter and one son. The funeral took place yesterday (Thursday) at St. Andrew’s Church, Kildwick.

[Father of Pte. Francis Richmond Thompson.]
