Arthur Walton (born 10 February 1879) was the son of Smith and Ellen Walton, née Wilkinson. Smith was born at Lothersdale and Ellen at Kelbrook, Yorkshire.

1891 Burnley, Lancashire Census: 43, Pear Street - Arthur Walton, aged 12 years, born Lothersdale, Yorkshire, son of Smith and Ellen Walton.

Arthur was married to Martha Ellen Bradshaw in 1900.

EARBY – Missing

A letter received by Mrs. A. Walton, 20, Gladstone Terrace, Earby, from an officer in France, states that her husband, Pte. Arthur Walton, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, has been reported missing since November 27th.

Private Arthur Walton, West Riding Regiment, who had been reported missing since November 27th last year, is now officially presumed to have been killed on that date or since. He was 38 years of age and leaves a wife and two children living at 20 Gladstone Terrace, Earby. Enquiries through the medium of the Red Cross Society have elicited the following particular from a Keighley comrade:– “I, along with others, was in a building in Bouillon [Bourlon] village which we had just taken. Walton was sitting in the window of an upper storey when he was shot through the head by a sniper. Directly after we had to evacuate the village, only holding it two hours, and Walton was left behind for dead. He was in the same Company as me and I knew him well.”

Private Walton was formerly employed as head cloth-looker at Messrs. B. and W. Hartley’s Brook Shed and was a highly respected member of the Earby Baptist choir. He went out to France at Christmas 1916.

Earby Soldier Presumed Killed

Pte. Arthur Walton, West Riding Regiment, who has been missing since November 27th last year, is now officially presumed to have been killed on that date or since. He was 38 years of age, and leaves a wife and two children living at 20, Gladstone Terrace, Earby. Enquiries through the medium of the Red Cross Society have elicited the following particulars from a Keighley comrade:– “I along with others was in a building in Bouillon village, which had just taken.
