The British Army Service Record for Robert Rathmell Herdman exists but may be incomplete. [Information received from the German Prisoner of War Office states that R.R. Herdmann, 30135 died on the 26 March 1918 and had been buried at: 'Morchani. (Dep. Somme) opposite the church at the Cross roads, Morchani-Pertain'. If Robert's body was found and re-buried after the war it would probably have been at Pargny British Cemetery as an unknown British soldier.]
Robert is commemorated on the Bishop Auckland War Memorial and in the Book of Remembrance 1914-18.
