SAWLEY – Died of wounds received in action on the Western Front, Sapper Nicholas Sawley, Royal Engineers, a native of Silsden, and son of Mrs. Sawley, 5, Pheasant Street, Keighley, aged 28 years.

SILSDEN – SAPPER NICHOLAS SAWLEY DIES FROM WOUNDS

Information has been received by Mrs. Sawley, 5, Pheasant Street, Keighley, of the death from wounds received in action of her son, Sapper Nicholas Sawley, of the Royal Engineers. He was 28 years of age, and had only been married six months. He joined the Army twelve months ago, and had been in France about seven weeks. Whilst resident in Keighley, Sapper Sawley carried out many important duties, including secretary of the North East Ward Liberal Association, in which capacity he rendered good service. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church Choir, Cavendish Street, at which place of worship a service was held to his memory on Sunday last. He was a native of Silsden, where, prior to removing to Keighley, he had resided for many years and was very well known.

FORMER SILSDEN RESIDENT DIES OF WOUNDS

Mrs. Sawley, of 5, Pheasant Street, Keighley, has received word of the death in action of her husband, Sapper Nicholas Sawley, of the Royal Engineers. He was 28 years of age and had only been married six months. He joined the army twelve months ago, and had been in France seven weeks. Sapper Sawley was for many years a well-known resident of Silsden. He had occupied many positions including secretary of the North-east Ward Liberal Association, and also ward secretary. He was also n member of the Cavendish Street United Methodist Church Choir.
