John Francis (Frank) Thwaite was the son of James and Ann Thwaite, née Allen. James was born at Hawes and Ann at West Marton, Yorkshire.

Another Settle Soldier Falls In Action

Official notification has been received that Private J. F. Thwaites, son of Mr. J. H. Thwaites, butcher, of Settle, was killed in action on the 9th August last. Prior to joining up he was in business with his father, and enlisted on the 1st June, 1917, being drafted to France on the 6th January last, and posted to the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment. Besides his parents, he leaves a widow and one child to whom we express our deepest sympathy.
