GLUSBURN – SUDDEN DEATH

The death of Mrs. Sams (formerly Miss Lily Dickinson), of Glusburn, which occurred on Monday last at the Woolwich Hospital, is of a pathetic nature. The deceased was the wife of a soldier, Mr. Sams, who at the time of her death was serving in the trenches in France. She leaves three little children. The husband has been allowed to come home, and attend the funeral, which took place at Woolwich on Thursday. The deceased was in her 33rd year.

Glusburn Sergeant Killed

Mrs. Sams, of Towning Place, Crosshills, has received official information that her husband, Sergt. Edward Sams, of the R.F.A., had been killed by a stray shell while in camp. Deceased, who was 34 years of age, had just gone through the great push to Cambrai and came out without a scratch. He went out with the first expeditionary force, being on the first boat to cross over to France. He had been in the service 18 years, and the communication received from the authorities recognising his long services, had been sent out to him by his wife. Deceased was a native of Woolwich, and had been twice married (to sisters). His second marriage was only recently to Miss Dickinson, of Glusburn. He leaves a widow and three little children.
