Edgar Hargreaves was the son of James and Selina Hargreaves, née Smith. James was born at Manchester, Lancashire and Selina at Skipton, Yorkshire.

1901 Skipton, Yorkshire Census: 104, Roseberry Terrace - Edgar Hargreaves, aged 6 years, born Skipton, son of James and Selina Hargreaves.

1911 Skipton, Yorkshire Census: 1, Walton Street - Edgar Hargreaves, aged 16 years, born Skipton, son of James and Selina Hargreaves.

Edgar was married to Daisy Knowles in 1915.

The British Army Service Record for Edgar Hargreaves exists but may be incomplete.

On the 24 September 1917, the 12th (Service) Bn Manchester Regiment absorbed the R.H.Q. and 2 squadrons of the 1/1st Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry. It then became the 12th (Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry) Bn Manchester Regiment.

Private Edgar Hargreaves, Skipton

Another Skiptonian to fall in the recent heavy fighting is Pte. Edgar Hargreaves, Manchester Regiment, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hargreaves, 78 Keighley Road, Skipton. At the time he was carrying out his duties as a stretcher-bearer. Twenty-three years of age, he enlisted two years ago and had been wounded twice previously. He was formerly in business as a hairdresser at Nelson, and leaves a widow, who lives at 22 Vale Street, Nelson.

Private E. Hargreaves Killed

Private Edgar Hargreaves, of the Manchester Regiment, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Hargreaves, of 78, Keighley Road, Skipton, has been killed in action whilst doing his duty as a stretcher-bearer. He enlisted over two years ago, and had twice been wounded. Prior to joining the colours he was in business as a hairdresser at Nelson. He was 23 years of age and married, his wife residing at 22, Vale Street, Nelson.
